Day 1: Nashville to Rome  

We all meet at the airport where our journey begins with an overnight flight.  Buongiorno (Good Morning) Welcome to Rome, The Eternal City. Once we settle into the hotel you can either relax or I can take you for a walk to get you acquainted with the local surroundings.

Day 2: Rome 

Get ready to immerse yourself in the heart of the “Eternal City” as our tour kicks off with a welcome dinner of regional specialties. It’s the perfect way to start our adventure and set the tone for an exciting and unforgettable trip!

Day 3: Rome – Walking Tour 

Today we get accustomed to Rome because after breakfast we meet with our local guide to learn about classical Rome. Included are the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona. Then we cut to the front of the line with our in-depth visit of the Colosseum built in the first century. We spent the day in the heart of Rome so pay attention to where you may want to go back to because the evening is ours. Ask me for suggestions as there are dozens of more interesting places to discover. 

Day 4:  Rome – Optional Vatican  &/or Trastevere District  


There is so much to do in Rome the day is ours!  Shopping, food, open markets, people watching, let me help you decide.  There are two optional tours if you would like a guide through the Vatican today and/or tonight you may choose a foodie tour through the Trastevere, a beautiful district in Rome that is known for its historic architecture, charming streets, and, of course, its amazing food.

 

Day 5:  Montecassino – Amalfi Coast 

Today we say arrivederci to Rome and begin our scenic journey to the Amalfi Coast, our home for the next 5 nights! En route we make a stop at the iconic Benedictine monastery of Montecassino, perched on a mountaintop that played a pivotal role in World War II. You will marvel at the monastery’s ornate chapel, courtyards and history. As we settle into our hotel this afternoon we can meet up and take some time to explore our immediate surroundings perched in a scenic location above the coastline before gathering for dinner.

Day 6  Amalfi Coast Excursion  

Get ready to immerse yourself  Drive along the stunning Amalfi Coast (UNESCO), pausing for a peek of Positano with its pastel-colored houses and pebbly beaches. View the Emerald Grotto and gaze out over the deep blue hues of the sea paired with the bright citrus fruits lining the hillsides. Spend time in the town of Amalfi. A former trading hub, Amalfi is now a quiet coastal town of historic landmarks and a black-and-white marble cathedral. Return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.

 

Day 7: Sorrento – Farmhouse Visit

Have a hearty breakfast because today’s adventure starts with a visit to a pasta factory artfully producing this national staple with traditional techniques. Then, it’s on to the charming resort town of Sorrento. Wander through its narrow streets, peaking into the peaceful cloister of St. Francis Church or sampling some gelato made with local lemons. This afternoon, visit a local farm and see how mozzarella cheese is still made by hand. Get a taste of the product at a farm-to-table dinner capped with homemade limoncello before returning to your hotel in the late evening.

 

Day 8: Amalfi Coast Free Day or Boat to Capri  

Enjoy a day at leisure to take in the relaxing beauty of the Amalfi Coast and take in the surrounding area. Explore the Old Town with a leisurely stroll through the charming narrow streets, colorful buildings, quaint shops and cafes. Maybe visit the Duomo, with it’s stunning frescoes and mosaics. Perhaps walk along the clear waters of the beach and Mediterranean breeze. Enjoy the Villa Comunale’s beautiful public garden is a great place to relax, take a walk, and enjoy the stunning views of the Bay of Naples. Try some local food and wine Sorrento is famous for such as limoncello, seafood, and pizza. There is an optional boat trip to the Mediterranean isle of Capri, where you’ll enjoy lunch and a locally guided tour. 

 

Day 9: Pompeii – Winery

This morning we experience one of the most important archeological sites in the world. – Pompeii your way, because it’s your choice! Join a local guide for an in-depth tour of Pompeii’s best-known monuments -OR- venture further afield to discover the  ruins of houses, temples and public buildings of this vast site yourself . Check out this video of an impromptu performance at Pompeii’s amphitheater on our last tour.

Next we  visit a local winery to savor the area’s famous Lacryma Christi wine made from grapes indigenous to the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, and has been produced since Ancient Roman times a long with a typical local lunch. After some free time, join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner and bid salute to the end of your Italian getaway

 

Day 10: Amalfi Coast  – USA  


After breakfast we bus to the airport and reminisce about how amazing our journey was and contemplate our next return to magnificent Italy.
